September Happy Hour with Sierra Club
We're excited to be co-hosting our monthly meetup again in September! We are partnering with our friends at the Chicago chapter of the Sierra Club to discuss the connections between housing policy and environmental policy and share ideas for how we can make Chicago a more walkable, transit-friendly, affordable, and climate-friendly city.
We will be meeting at District Brew Yards at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, September 20th. District Brew Yards is a short walk from the Ashland Green/Pink Line station, as well as CTA bus routes 9 and 65.
Affordable Housing Win!
Last month, we sent out an email encouraging our members to support 45 affordable, all-electric homes in Irving Park. The project faced strong opposition from four neighborhood groups who circulated a petition reiterating the usual NIMBY concerns about height and a lack of parking.
We are excited to announce that the project was approved! According to Alderwoman Rodriguez-Sanchez, 73% of feedback form comments supported the affordable homes. A big chunk of these supportive comments came from UE members like you. Thank you for making your voice heard and helping make this project a reality!
When we show up, we win.
"My vision for improving the ward is building communities of care and this 100 percent affordable housing development with family-sized units is a manifestation of that idea. I have no doubt that it will make our community better and stronger." — Ald. Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez
