Support New Homes in Evanston!
We've launched our first Evanston housing petition! We are writing Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss in support of the proposed homes located at 1621 Chicago Ave in Downtown Evanston. The project has faced opposition from a few outspoken neighbors who have complained that the development is "out of character" with their (downtown) neighborhood and have expressed concern that the project will cause "congestion". They don't bother to mention thatthere is already a much taller building across the street. 🧐
Project Highlights
- Brings desperately-needed affordable homes to a ward that currently does not have a single affordable housing unit in a market rate building.
- Located within two blocks of the Davis Street CTA Purple Line station and the Evanston Metra station, as well as numerous bus routes, making it extremely friendly for public transit users and greatly reducing the carbon footprint of its residents.
- Located a short walk away from Northwestern University
- LEED Gold building with a reasonable 0.33 parking ration and ample EV charging

August Happy Hour with Commuters Take Action
We're excited to be hosting a joint happy hour with Commuters Take Actionthis month! Housing policy and transportation policy are highly intertwined, and we look forward to bringing together a diverse group of passionate advocates and learning how we can support one another to achieve our goals.
We will be meeting at The Green at 320 S Canal (right outside Afterbar) at 6pm on Thursday, August 24th. The Green is conveniently located just steps away from Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center, and it looks likethe nearby Blue Line station will reopen by then, too!
This will almost certainly be our biggest event yet - we hope to see you there!
Lincoln Park Housing Win!
Back in March, we launched a petition in support of 134 homes in Lincoln Park which had been rejected after seven community meetings. The petition gained well over 100 supporters, and many individuals also emailed Alderman Hopkins directly.
This month, the same project was approved! We're excited to see these much-needed new homes overcome NIMBY opposition in one of Chicago's wealthiest neighborhoods, providing new housing options, including 20 affordable units, just steps from the Red Line.
"I believe I am making a decision in the best interest in the neighborhood and city as a whole." — Alderman Hopkins
This win may not have happened without everyone's support. Great work!
